History The very first Hawai`i Island Clubhouse opened its doors in 1952 as the "Boys Club of Hilo." Located on Kamehameha Avenue, the clubhouse was destroyed by the tidal wave of 1960. The central complex was then relocated to 100 Kamakahonu Street, in Hilo, where it presently stands today.Although originally started as a "boys" only club, girls were welcomed to the clubhouse in 1988. Accordingly, the club's name was changed to "The Boys and Girls Club."
Since its inception, the Club has serviced over 50,000 youth, and presently provides programming for more than 1,200 youth at our Hilo, Kea'au, Pahoa, Pahala, Oceanview, and Hamakua locations.
For an annual membership fee of $10.00, all Hawai`i Island youth ages six (6) to eighteen (18) are encouraged and welcome to join.
